Trauma recovery is a complex process. The symbolic or visual representations of experience, emotion and memory can often be accessed long before these aspects of experience are verbalized. Designed for counsellors and therapists who work with traumatized clients, this workshop will guide participants in the effective use of art therapy to help maximize a clients’ capacity for managing issues of stabilization and trauma processing (i.e. building a therapeutic relationship, developing affect tolerance and regulation, and accessing hidden aspects of the self and experience).
Topics will include:
Tally Tripp, MA, MSW, LICSW, ATR-BC is the Director of the George Washington University Art Therapy Center with over 25 years of both clinical and private practice experience. Her passion for art therapy and the potential it offers for posttraumatic healing and growth is evident in her dynamic, engaging and hands-on trainings and presentations. A frequent presenter at national and international conferences, Tally weaves together the clinical wisdom of a seasoned practitioner with client and therapist art work to clearly demonstrate all the healing and regenerative power of art therapy. In addition to her formal training, Tally has advanced, specialized training in working with traumatized individuals through the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation (ISSTD). Sand tray therapy is a powerful approach that has the potential to complement a range of therapeutic approaches and counselling models. In this workshop, Bart Begalka, M.Ed provides participants with the applied skills gleaned from his years of experience in work with traumatized children and adults. Participants will learn integrative sand tray techniques that can be applied immediately and effectively with a range of presenting concerns for clients of all ages, including but not limited to: Developmental trauma, separation and divorce, attachment difficulties, parent-child conflict, persistent nightmares.
