Counselling can be an active process of setting goals and working together to meet them. It can also be a process of being supported and witnessed in navigating life challenges. I believe in both these attitudes and employ them to support my clients. To do this, I primarily employ person-centered and experiential counselling techniques.
I work individually with men, women, couples, and adolescents in life goals and career development domains. I specialize in group counselling, employing an interpersonal style of leadership that emphasizes safety, inclusion, and control for members. I deliver specific groups, such as Guided Autobiography and Therapeutic Enactment (TE). I also am experienced in trauma work, such as Observed and Experiential Integration (OEI).
I am a doctoral student in the Counselling Psychology program at the University of British Columbia. My master’s thesis explored the male experience of suppressing emotion. My research interests involve understanding men in individual and group counselling in order to improve their experiences in counselling.
I hold degrees in mathematics (BSc, 1995), economics (MA, 1998) and counselling psychology (MA, 2011). Prior to coming to Vancouver I worked as a trading analyst in the Alberta energy sector. I also worked as an economic analyst for the federal department of industry in emerging technologies (internet, telecom). I have over 10 years of work experience in public, private, and academic settings.
